Plot Summary:

The first episode opens with the mysterious suicide of a high-school girl, Chisa Yomoda. Chisa-chan was a classmate of Lain Iwakura, a quiet, 14-year-old high-school girl. One of the other girls in the class has been receiving e-mail messages from Chisa-chan, and Lain discovers she also has mail from Chisa-chan. In the mail she explains to Lain that she just abandoned her flesh. She assures lain that she still is alive in the ‘wired’ world. After getting a new ‘navi’ and adding a ‘psyche’ circuit, Lain spends more and more time in the wired. It seems that Lain has at least 2 personalities, and Lain’s first personality is changing even now. Who is lain? Who are the ‘knights’? Can the wired influence the real world with a prophecy? Is the real world nothing but a hologram of the information in the wired?

Plot Summary:

Because of the grand sinking, there appeared a big “hole” near the apartment complex in Machida. Therewith, 185 families, almost all the inhabitants there, were killed miserably. The Police couldn’t find any clue of this ferocious mass murder. However, an old man and a disgusting relic from the Middle Age called “Durj Box” were related to this case.

5 years have passed since then. It is near future. Tokyo has two faces; the one is a prospered megalopolise, the other one is a criminal city. Shindo Ranmaru, one of the survivors of the tragedy occurred in Machida, has become a policeman to solve the mass murder case. One day, he is informed that a drug habitue is rampaging around Shibuya. However, what he sees there is not so easy. The monsters that apparently don’t look like human are assaulting people. It is the members of Tokko, or the Special Mobile Squad Public Branch, including Rokujo Sakura, that save helpless policemen. To be surprised, they fight against monsters not with guns or nightsticks, but with swords.

Then, Shindo learns the surprising fact that Japan will be demolished within two years, and he has to face the tragedic fate to fight against monsters that come from the “hole”.

Plot Summary:

One year ago, an alien spaceship crashed in Tokyo Bay. As they were unable to go home, the aliens received Japanese citizenship. They were called DearS, meaning “Dear Friends.” In order to study the Japanese language and customs, a homestay system was established.

One day, high school student Ikuhara Takeya encounters a DearS girl wearing nothing but a blanket. Due to hunger, she collapses on the street. Much to his embarrassment, he has no choice but to bring this alien, whom he later names Ren, to stay the night in his apartment. She insists on staying, referring to Takeya as “Master”. Ren learns Japanese overnight due to her race’s high intelligence and linguistic abilities and the help of Neneko, Takeya’s childhood friend and daughter of the apartment manager.

Later, Ren goes on to attend Takeya’s school, where she is mistaken for another DearS exchange student. However, trouble occurs when the real exchange student, Miu, appears.
